I love sushi, I love sashimi, I love nabe, I love flavors from around the world. Furthermore, I especially love the flavors at Kenichi! For 30+ years we have consistently had professional, fun chefs creating amazing food and a team who enjoy the restaurant business. Walking by the Carbondale location, inspired by a girl named Ali, I saw a vision. We are going to create a warm gathering space for amazing food and stories with flavors from around the world. Simple. Sublime. Seasonal.

The design backbone is a 100+ yr old solid oak post-n-beam structure reclaimed by a mid-west Amish crew and reassembled in the restaurant. Then, our GC Mike Eroh, continued and built the liquor bar, sushi bar, and tables out of the same 100 yr old oak.

An Izakaya is a Japanese-style tavern where sake and beer are enjoyed with friends. IzaKaya Carbondale is a natural extension of Kenichi flavors, adding to the small-town charm of Carbondale and the IzaKaya “Pub Style” atmosphere in an elegant main street location. IzaKaya offers an alternative view of Japanese cuisine from the sushi served at Kenichi Aspen. While offering a selection of Kenichi’s classic sashimi dishes, IzaKaya’s menu draws inspiration from the rich heritage of Japanese Sakana, or hot food to be enjoyed while drinking. The rich flavors of Japanese hot food have created a menu that offers delicate sashimi plates, delicious share plates, and bold entrees. Come in and enjoy this unique expression of Japanese Cuisine and Chef Pablo’s flavor creation.
